Design House

Design House has had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people on some wonderful projects over the years in our native Ireland. Private clients have included the country’s top business people, sportsmen and stars of the music and film industry.

We have assembled a selection of some of our favourite Irish projects to demonstrate our versatility in creating the ultimate in crafted classic and contemporary living.

There are kitchens and there are Design House kitchens.

New England Living Kitchen, Cork

The Design House Living Kitchen at a spectacular private residence in Cork is styled in classical New England fashion. Solid oak units were painted by an artist on-site and topped by exquisite Italian grey marble. Storage units span the full room height and the circular island unit incorporates the technically demanding feature of perfect steam-bent doors within frames.

In addition to fine cabinetry, the kitchen combines all manner of appliances, including a Wolf range cooker and Sub Zero fridge, freezer and wine chiller. Design House also designed and installed a glamorous wine-tasting room beneath the kitchen complete with Sub Zero wine cellar appliances.

Poggenpohl Plusmodo, Dalkey Co Dublin

A Poggenpohl Plusmodo kitchen was specified by the architect for this stunning contemporary residence in Dalkey, County Dublin. The Plusmodo kitchen is the creation of Argentinian architect and designer Jorge Pensi whose work is known for its timelessness, with an emphasis on the relationship between form and space. He cites his aim as being to create as many sensations as possible with as few resources as possible.

As seen here, the transparency and openness of the Plusmodo kitchen facilitates a flowing transition between cooking and living areas. The mix of open and closed areas with integrated vertical and horizontal lighting creates an architectural landscape of shapes and colours, materials and light and special construction methods enable worktops to ‘float’. Appliances are by Swiss manufacturers Vzug.

Porsche Design, Dalkey Co Dublin

The first retail Porsche Design kitchen in the World was installed in 2011 by Design House at a fiercely contemporary house overlooking the sea in Dalkey, County Dublin. De Blacam and Meagher Architects specified the Porsche Design kitchen to complement the precision of their design at this amazing location.

Both owners and architects were wowed by the Porsche Design kitchen for its purity of line and functional perfection – evoking the passion of the automobile with which the kitchen shares its name. Black polished glass fronted units backed by carbon fibre and white quartz-based counter-tops were selected from the Porsche Design materials range. Exclusive appliances are by Miele operated by an electronic touch control system.

Living Kitchen, South Dublin

Design House created this special Living Kitchen in a large house on the edge of the Dublin Mountains for a very discerning cook. The feel is contemporary classic and we developed an elegant linear design which facilitated two Wolf ovens side by side. There are two islands – the first a cooking island with breakfast bar (and powerful extraction built discreetly into the ceiling above) and the second a “wet” island housing a sink, dishwasher and crockery storage, making this a great ergonomically functioning kitchen.

The hand-crafted islands and units are painted shades of grey in Helen Turkington Paints and furnished with Design House nickel-plated handles, while the worktops are formed from a 50mm thick rare Italian marble, exclusive to Design House.

Living Kitchen, South Dublin

This Design House Living Kitchen is a beautiful, classically elegant room designed to complement the style of a large Victorian residence. It is a perfect example of how hand-crafted finesse and technological innovation can be combined to great effect within a traditionally styled environment.

Rare Calacatta marble tones with soft grey units in Helen Turkington Paints to create a refined elegance, yet concealed within the framework of the kitchen are a number of powerful and sophisticated appliances, such as a remote controlled down-draught extraction system which enables the beautiful chandelier to occupy the space above the cooker island in place of the conventional hood. Designed for the keenest of cooks, this kitchen features both Wolf and Aga cookers plus a Miele steam oven.
